Myanmar Visa On Arrival New Policy (with effect from 1st of May 2010)
A. Any nationals holding valid normal passport will be issued Visa On Arrival if being accordance with regulations.
B. Passport of the applicant must be valid at least 6 months starting after the date of arrival.
C. Visa On Arrival (for Tourist): fee USD 30 will be collected and will be permitted for 28 days. Application for renewal of Stay Permit is not allowed.
D. Visa On Arrival (for Business): fee USD 40 will be collected and will be permitted for 71 days. The application for renewal of Stay Permit can be submitted.
E. Visa On Arrival (for Social Visit): fee USD 40 will be collected and will be permitted for 28 days. The application for renewal of Stay Permit can be submitted.
F. Visa On Arrival (for Transit): fee: USD 18 will be collected and will be permitted for 24 hours.
G. Applicant must have a return air ticket to leave from Myanmar.
H. Applicant must stay in the licensed hotels, Motels or Guesthouses recognized by the Myanmar Government. The exact address of accommodation must be shown.
I. Those who have place to accommodate such as house of friends or relatives, Industry or Workshop must show the exact address of the host.
J. Applicant must bring two photos (4×6 cm in size) being photographed within past 6 months.
K. Applicant must undertake to follow all the existing rules and regulations including Myanmar Immigration ACT.
L. Children shown on the passport of the parents below 7 year of age will be permitted Visa for free. Children of Individual Passport Holder below 7 year of age will be permitted Visa for free.
M. Individual Traveler must be able to show at least USD 300 as belonging. Traveler (for Social Visit) must be able show at least USD 600 as belonging. Or Foreign Exchange equivalent to USD can be also shown.
N. Applicant must visit by observing the existing Myanmar Visa Regulations.
O. Unauthorized restricted areas are not allowed. Foreigners must be noticed about restricted areas.
P. During stay in Myanmar, applicant must report about the address of accommodation to the concerning Township Immigration Office through Hotel, Motel, Inn, Guesthouse, home or office where he/she stays.
Q. Applicant can get the application form for Visa On Arrival from the airlines or On Line.

Visa on arrival via online within 24 hrs from the time of application is possible according to 7 Days news journal. Travel Agencies (TA) including MyanmarVisa.com have contract signed by agreeing to a whopping 60$ service fee (in addition to 20$ visa fee to Immigration Dept) to Diamond Palace (DP) Travel who claimed to be able to process tourist visa within 24 hours. But MyanmarVisa.com continued to process pre-arranged visa with 3 days processing time at the fee of 40$ (in addition to 20$ Immigration visa fee). DP Travel has good connection with Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and therefore implemented online visa processing with very basic form-to-email base system. The officials at Ministry of Tourism supported Diamond Palace at the presentation at ParkRoyal Hotel when it launched the visa processing service to the tourism industry. It is now possible to remit the service fee via Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank and Kanbawza Bank according to contract. The applying travel agent must submit 1)correctly filled form of On Arrival Visa Application Form 2) copy of client passport 3) passport photo taken within 6 months 4) License of the accompanying Guide who is not blacklisted 5) personal details of the guide 6) tour plan of client while in Myanmar.

The tourism industry feels that such undertaking should be borne by either government or tourism association because sending client information to another travel agency such as DP will create conflict of interest. This fact is highlighted at the meeting held at Parkroyal but the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism never took note. On the other hand, if DP can deliver what it claim, it will be a good sign for Myanmar tourism as travelers can apply from any where such as from home away from the city where Myanmar Embassy exist, while traveling. The fee 80 $ is a normal charge if you research other Online Visa from other countries. Travelers just have to trust the agency for their visa application and accept if there is any rejection but this rejection does not mean you are not welcome. It just mean that Ministry of Hotel and Tourism alone cannot decide the approval of your visa and Myanmar Embassy can better judge that particular case.

Golf on a tropical island paradise surrounded by scenic beauty and abundant marine life – that’s the package being offered by a Myanmar tour company.

Starting this month, Tourism Myanmar Cooperative (TMC) is promotion a tour package for golfers on two courses, said U Aye Min Oo, the company’s managing director.

“This is a unique package to promote golfing in Myanmar, as well as to promote the Myeik Archieplago, as there are two golf courses there – Kawthaung golf course and Thahtay Island (Andaman Club Hotel) course,” he said.

The Kawthaung course, 7 miles from the town, charges non-members K5000 for the 18-hole round, and rents equipment and carts.

“The second golf course is unique in Myanmar. It was built on an island near the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Its second nine holes were opened on December 15 last year. Now golfers can enjoy an 18-hole course at the Myanmar Andaman Resort Club on Thahtay Island,” said U Aye Min Oo.

The package will cost nearly K150,000 for Myanmar citizens, including hotel accommodation, transportation to the course from Kawthaung and course entry fees, but not airfares.

The company is planning to operate a four-day/three night trip from Kawthaung to Myeik starting from January 25 to the end of April for local and international visitors. Also included are visits to Red Monkey Island, Crescent Bay, Nyaung Wee Salone village and Magyone Galet on Bo Cho Island, where the Salone festival was held in 2004.

Visitors can also see villages built on stilts on the shore of Domel Island and observe their lifestyle before proceeding to Myeiki town.

The package will cost US$500 per person fro foreigners and K500,000 for locals, including meals and accommodation onboard the boat.

“We have cabins with bunks for five people. More people can join, but will have to sleep on deck – sleeping bags or tents wil be provided,” he said.

The package for those willing to sleep on deck will cost foreigners $350 each, and locals K350,000.

“This is a very special rate for locals and for foreigners who live and work in Myanmar. We can also arrange a group package,” he said.

Many travelers stranded in Myanmar due to the protest in Thailand and the blocking of airport in Bangkok are choosing the southern exit route through the border town Kawthaung also known as Victoria Point.

The procedure is as follows :

1. Apply to Ministry of Hotels and Tourism mentioning company name, number of clients, brief historical itinery in Myanmar, manager or guide accompanying the clients (if any) and the pledge of the company that clients are free from political, religious agenda.
2. Once the Letter of permission (or Letter No.) from Ministry is obtained, travellers can go to Kawthaung and check out from Myanmar Immigration in Kawthaung.
3. Rent a longtail boat at Myoma Jetty (+/- 10$), they can reach Ranong.
4. Get a taxi to the Bus Terminal or Ranong Airport. Minivan to Phuket is about 4 hrs. drive.

More than 10 tourists have crossed the boarder this way, according to the manager of TMC limited which has branch office in Kawthaung.

“I accompnied with the clients up to the Bus Terminal and the clients are quite relieved to be able to return this way” said Myat Zaw, the manager who accompanied with them to the bus terminal in Ranong. There were regular buses running to Bangkok as well as international airport in Phuket. So far, Phuket International Airport has many air links including Australia, Hongkong, Singapore and some European countries.

Many tourists are flying out of provincial airports including Phuket and Chiang Mai. France, Spain and Australia have sent special flights to evacuate desperate citizens stuck in Thailand.

Tourists are also scrambling to leave via the small, Vietnam-era U-Tapao airport southeast of Bangkok, where queues snake round the basic terminal and thousands of passengers jostle to get their luggage through one scanner.

Check-in facilities have also been opened at a hotel and a convention centre in Bangkok to try to work through the backlog of frustrated holidaymakers.

Phuket Airport manager announces that the airport is open 24 hours a day as more flights evacuate stranded passengers.

Yangon 9 May: Supplies and Aids flowing in to Myanmar’s worst hit by Cyclone Nargis. World Food Programme’s 2 planes landed at Yangon International Airport after authorities have given permission. But Aid agencies said this is not enough and many more supplies are waiting to be shipped to Myanmar awaiting approval from the government.
According to some news agencies, it is very difficult for the aid workers to get visa to come in to Myanmar. US, UK and France promised to help the cyclone affected area with millions and millions of dollars quoting Ms. Rice.
The worst hit areas in the Irrawaddy delta are Bogalay and MawlamyaingKyun. Most of the deaths are due to Tidal Waves as 150 mph wind created 3.7 meter waves.
