Below is the new visa application procedure for individuals

The Visa on Arrival (VOA) is a prearranged visa-approval mainly for tourists by the preliminary VOA Board (PVB) which involves Tourism Ministry and Immigration. The advantage is the travelers to Myanmar can save a trip to Myanmar Embassy by allowing to apply online. This is more suitable for travelers on the way, away from Myanmar Embassy or consulate. Application can be sent by email or Fax.

Since the VOA Board is in Naypyidaw - the new capital where Myanmar seat of Administration was moved - and since VOA is reviewed and permitted by 2 Ministries, it will take about 10 days. Therefore, enough allowance must be given in your travel plans if you are considering VOA service.

Submitting the application by Visitor

Important : We require your tour plan* (the whole tour plan during your stay in Myanmar) and hotel booking. You must send us your tour plan and hotel booking or you must book a hotel with us.

1. Visitor must apply Visa-on-arrival through licensed tour company from Ministry of Hotel and Tourism.
    
2. Visitor must fill in the Application Form. Send a passport photo and copy of your passport by email or fax (preferably email). Secured Form at http://www.myanmarvisa.com/visaapplication.htm
    
3. Upon approval, we will send you the 'Approval Letter' by email/fax
    
4. All the airlines with connections to Yangon are informed of this procedure and you may show this 'Approval Letter' on airline check in. It is recommended to check with your airline if they are aware of this procedure.
    
5. Upon arriving at Yangon International Airport, you have to present this 'Approval Letter' to the Immigration check in counter.

Application Procedure : 10 Steps for Tour Companies as at 27 June, 2009

New Procedure at Naypyidaw for all travel companies on 19th June, 2009. After the presentation by Diamond Palace at Park Royal hotel, Immigration department changed the procedure on their side which required the application to go to Naypyitaw Immigration for security check. Tour companies should take this Immigration-process-correspondence-time into consideration when informing traveler for application time.

1. After receiving client's intention to apply for Visa on Arrival, initiate an application letter with company letterhead outlining why VOA is needed to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (MHT) at Nay Pyi Daw. A hand written list should be attached so that staff at MHT does not have to write again to send to Immigration department

2. Followings must be mentioned on that single-page application.
   a. Tour License number
   b. Tour package bought
   c. Itinery - Description of tour, hotels and transport.
   d. Guide name (mandatory).

3. Fill and attach one pre-defined 'On Arrival Visa Form' for each visitor

4. Sign the form with company seal under guarantee text either by Managing Director or any available member of Managerial team.

5. Photo of the visitor must be attached. Black&White acceptable.

6. Nationality, Citizenship, Religion and Profession of the visitor must be correctly and clearly mentioned.

7. Submit the application to the Officer in charge of Minister’s office. Upon receiving the approval from the MHT, the application will be forwarded to Immigration by MHT.

8. Immigration Department will proceed to the preliminary VOA Board (PVB). Note : minimum 5 working days needed from this point on. After security check the approved list will be sent to Yangon Immigration and Airport Immigration.

9. Companies can collect Approved/Disapproved VOA applications from Department of Immigration.

10. If approved, the 'Approval Letter' must be sent to the visitor who will be required to produce it upon arrival at the Yangon International Airport. Note : visitor must be informed that visa fee is not yet collected and to be paid on arrival at the Immigration Counter at the Yangon Airport.
